Tik Tok is guilty of some disgusting behavior. What disgusting behavior, you ask? Not removing abusive content which clearly violates community guidelines. It gets reported, then after they "review" the content, a message pops up saying that it "doesn't violate community guidelines". This happens every time! I am getting so sick of nothing being done, and I imagine others are too.

Now, you might be wondering what is considered "abusive content". First of all, "abusive content" refers to videos discriminating others due to race, sex, gender identity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics under the law. Videos of this type are rampant throughout the app. The app claims that videos like these are not allowed on the app, but whenever these types of videos are reported on the app, a message comes up saying that it "doesn't violate community guidelines". Doing blackface and making fun of Black people for their appearance or other characteristics? "Doesn't violate community guidelines." Videos with the term "white power" in them, which clearly aren't meant to spread awareness of and discourage white supremacy? "Doesn't violate community guidelines." White people saying the n word or other racial slurs? "Doesn't violate community guidelines." Homophobic and transphobic slurs? Same result. Degrading comments toward women regarding their sex? Nope. Non-binary erasure? Also nope. Videos targeting Muslims or Jews? Perfectly fine according to the app. Any other kind of discrimination? You're "okay",  you're not getting banned any time soon. Unfortunately these aren't the only kind of videos being allowed on the app.

Which brings me to my next point. Bullying, harassment, death threats, encouraging suicide, revenge porn, and other behaviors which pose a threat to the safety, reputation, or mental well-being of others are also against community guidelines. What happens when you report them though? Same thing. "This doesn't violate community guidelines". Seriously? How can you claim your app is "safe", yet content like this is not removed? Tell me how the app is "safe", yet people can post naked pictures of their ex? Tell me how it's "safe" when people are told to kill themselves for not being a fan of Zoe Laverne, Charli D'amelio, or other public figures. Let me answer: it's not. Tik tok has become the very thing it sought to destroy. An unsafe community in which only certain people belong there and others can "get lost".

Speaking of getting lost, another type of content that is not removed despite going against community guidelines is spam. Now, what does spam have to do with getting lost? These kind of videos can encourage people to go to malicious websites and enter their login information, then lose access to their account due to getting hacked. Tik Tok claims these kind of videos go against their community guidelines, but when they're reported, all of a sudden, they no longer violate community guidelines. Am I hallucinating, or is this hypocrisy in its purest form? I'd think it would be the latter, but maybe not. The Tik Tok administration apparently doesn't seem to think so. This may not be a direct threat to safety, but it certainly is abusive content. Nobody knows what these hackers have the capability of doing. They could expose user emails and phone numbers, thus enabling more spam and scamming to come their way. They could access credit card information and potentially wipe bank accounts. They could spread the scammy content to the users' followers in an attempt to hack them too. Tik Tok doesn't seem to care though. All they care about is making money off their users. Disgusting.

We, the maker and signers of this petition, demand Tik Tok to hold abusive users accountable for their content and ban it like it should be. By doing this, we can make Tik Tok safe, inclusive, and a happy environment, and we can help combat scamming, fraud, phishing, and spam. Not only that, it would be less of a reason for people to want the app banned. This is not meant to impede on the free speech rights of anyone, however, hate and bullying are not and should not be considered "free speech" under any circumstances whatsoever. Please, Tik Tok, do better. Enough is enough. We will not stand for this any longer.
