Lets End Mental Health Discrimination

Lack of Mental Health awareness has been an ongoing issue that affects everyone in our community. Our streets are flooded with individuals in need of assistance with diagnosing, treatment and hospitalization. Sadly, many of these individuals are young adults suffering and struggling with mental illness disorders. Mental illness is just as crucial as any other illness or disease, yet it is constantly overlooked. This matter requires immediate attention.
Lack of education and training on this subject, (especially with our law enforcement officials) leads to inappropriate handling of these individuals. Hospitals and institutions are not being scrutinized; their methods are often inadequate when treating mental health disorders. Patients are constantly being "dumped" onto the streets without effective treatment, and this poses a great hazard to the other members of the community; leading to increased crime rates, homelessness, and casualties.
It is time to provide increased funding for this health branch. I urge for more community resources, facilitation of housing, additional availability of Psychiatric Emergency Teams, and for hospitals and institutions to treat patients adequately. As part of our society, these individuals require assistance to reincorporate themselves as functioning members of our society. The neglect needs to stop now. It is our responsibility to provide immediate attention and action to this matter.
