KCSD: This is not OK
KCSD: This is not OK
Kershaw County School district released this statement regarding the coronavirus on March 8th, 2020:
"Update: In speaking with officials from KershawHealth, it was brought to our attention that two students, one from North Central High School and one from Camden High School, were interning in the Emergency Room when the patient with possible Coronavirus (COVID-19) was admitted. The students did not have direct contact with the patient. We have also been advised that these students would not be able to transmit the disease for several days. Only close contact or touching surfaces that the patient may have touched would be significant; however, we have asked the families to self-isolate just as a precaution next week. This is in line with KershawHealth’s standard operating procedures for their employees.
KCSD Guidance/Response: We completed a thorough cleaning with Lysol, Clorox, and alcohol mixtures in all of our facilities this past weekend. We will utilize a tiered response that includes social distancing and full disclosure. The World Health Organization (WHO) does not recommend wearing masks; they state, “If you are not ill or looking after someone who is ill, then you are wasting a mask.” If an individual is ill, then part of our tiered response is for that person to stay home until he/she is symptom-free."
This seems acceptable on surface level, however no cleaning had taken place over the weekend (at least at Lugoff-Elgin High School). Now, no students of this school were exposed, however they claimed ALL facilities would be cleaned. As a student of these schools, I am concerned for my health and that of my classmates. As of writing this, I am sitting within spitting distance of somebody's blood, dried up and crusty on the floor. Not even general upkeep was done on the school, and it's not hard to see.
They claimed that they "completed a thorough cleaning with Lysol, Clorox, and alcohol mixtures in all of our facilities this past weekend." Even if the general upkeep didn't apply, this is still a shady description. Thorough is defined as such: "
complete with regard to every detail; not superficial or partial."
This wording implies that the entire school was cleaned top to bottom, which is clear to see did not happen.
These are dangerous practices, and I'm concerned for the wellbeing of ourselves and the staff. We ask that the school receives a cleaning, and that KCSD follow its word. Coronavirus is not a joke, and they should stop claiming they're fixing it when they're not.
