Santhivanam is patch of greenery that survived the axe for 200+ years in the city of Paravoor, Ernakulam,Kerala. A family has preserved 2.5 acres of land for generations. This patch of land with 3 sacred groves and 3 ponds is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including endangered species, which is a rarity in the heart of a growing city. Students and researchers alike frequent this place dazzled by its pristine beauty and uniqueness. Now it is threatened by a 110KV line project of the KSEB, which threatens to destroy this fragile ecosystem. It is time to draw a line. Development is required, but not at the expense of the environment. If an alternative route can be created at any cost to protect this ecosystem it should be done.

As the great mahatma said "There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed."
