A Kerala government school Principal issued a bizarre and communal diktat threatening all students that he would expel anyone who wore religious symbols to school like kumkum on the forehead or sacred thread on the wrists. The Indian Constitution gives the right of expression of religion and any such diktats that stifle one’s freedom of expression are not in tune with the fabric of the country’s diversity. Right to practice , profess and propogate your religion is a fundamental right of Indian citizens and basic structure of the Indian Constitution.
