Kentucky State Police currently has a regulation set that applicants cannot have any tattoos below the elbow or above the collar. This regulation was set in March of 2002 and states, “AGENCY POLICY REQUIRES THAT TATTOOS OR BODY PIERCINGS SHALL NOT BE VISIBLE WHILE IN ANY AGENCY ISSUED UNIFORM”. This disqualifies many able and passionate applicants from pursuing their dreams of serving and protecting their community. It has been 19 years since this regulation was put in place - the standards for formal uniform have changed. The Kentucky State Police regulations for tattoos should change as well to allow more men and women to serve.
