Kentucky had the fourth most overdose deaths in the nation between April 2020 to April 2021, according to the CDC. Fentanyl testing for overdose victims are not provided by most Emergency Departments in Kentucky even though increased overdoses are most likely due to Fentanyl consumption. All Kentuckians will be impacted directly or indirectly by Fentanyl in the next couple of years if this rising epidemic continues, so the availability of testing for Fentanyl in overdose patients in Kentucky Emergency Hospitals will assist communities in combating where this deadly drug is being manufactured and sold to our loved ones, as well as keep track of the number of Kentuckians overdosing on this deadly drug.
