Vacate the KPSC Final Order on Bluegrass Water Rate Increase
Bluegrass Water Utility Operating Company, LLC (BW), a subsidiary of Central States Water Resources (CSWR) is acquiring water and sewer systems throughout the state of Kentucky, making upgrades, and increasing monthly rates to their customers, dramatically.
As a private corporation, BW is concerned about one thing only--profit for itself and its stockholders! This is clearly evident in it's demands for unreasonable rate increases ranging from 65.3% to more than 500%, and a corporate ROE of 11.8%--particularly during an economic period of very low interest rates.
On August 2, 2021 the Kentucky Public Service Commission issued a "Final Order" approving the majority of their demands, including outrageous rate increases up to 587.8%!!!
It is a very dangerous precedent, when private, "for profit" corporations are allowed to purchase the rights to vital life sustaining public services, and hold those communities hostage in a veritable "local monopoly" for the sole purpose of enriching that private entity.
We, the undersigned, do hereby petition Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, and the Office of Rate Intervention to file an appeal in the Franklin Circuit Court to vacate the KPSC Final Order in case #2020-00290 on the grounds that it is unlawful or unreasonable!
