Petition Closed

This is the most crucial time to share concerns with our State Senators about DOMA and ask for their support in the DOMA Repeal.

What would change, and what must change, is the Federal Government’s unequal treatment of state-approved marriages. All married couples deserve the same clarity, fairness, and security under our Federal law. The time has come for the Federal Government to recognize that all married couples deserve the same legal protections.

DOMA is denying tens of thousands of legally married lesbian and gay couples more than 1,100 federal protections they deserve. These federal protections include Social Security suvivors' benefits, family and medical leave, equal compensation as federal employees, and immigration rights (deportations), among others.

Letter to
Kentucky Citizens
Senator Mitch McConnell
Senator Rand Paul
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul.

----------------
I'm writing to express my disappointment with the House leadership pushing forward with a wasteful defense of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and to urge you to push forward legislation to repeal this hurtful and discriminatory law. An important first step in this effort is to support Representative Nadler and Senator Feinstein's legislation to repeal DOMA, the Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 1116 and S. 598).

The Defense of Marriage Act is denying tens of thousands of legally married lesbian and gay couples across the country more than 1,000 federal protections they deserve. These federal protections of marriage include Social Security survivors' benefits, family and medical leave, equal compensation as federal employees, and immigration rights, among others. I believe like so many other Americans believe in equal rights for all families.

All across this country, same-sex couples are living the same lives that heterosexual couples live -- raising children and trying to save for their educations; committing to each other emotionally and financially, paying taxes, serving on the PTA, and struggling to balance work and family.

It's time to do away with DOMA once and for all and I look to you to lead the fight on this important issue and shameful act on another minority group. Thank you for your time, attention, and consideration in hopes of your support of the DOMA Repeal.

Can we count on your support?
