Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy in K-12 Education (Kent County)
This petition had 184 supporters
Many Autism Families want ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) Therapy in their child's school. ABA Therapy is one of the only (if not the only) therapy which has proven results. When ABA is administered properly and early enough, 50% of Autistic Children are indistinguishable from their peers at Kindergarten. If it is not administered early, it still has amazing results at any age.
Most schools do not have ABA within their programming, but some schools do allow parents to bring in ABA therapists (at their own expense) to help their own child. Ottawa County, next to Kent County, has led the way in allowing outside ABA Therapists inside their classrooms. Unfortunately, all districts in Kent County do not allow outside therapists into the classroom (even if the parent pays for it, for their own child).
Please join me and sign this petition, asking Kent ISD to change those policies which ban parents' freedom to help their own special needs children. Those policies include anything that prohibits an ABA therapist from entering an autistic child's classroom to provide appropriate support, at the parents' expense.
