Birch Hill Recovery Center, a for-profit, out of state enterprise just formed in January of this year, has leased the property formerly known as The Kent at 46 Maple St, Kent CT.
They are proposing 90 Drug Detox and Drug rehab beds here.
These 90 substance abuse beds would put an unnecessary strain on our existing first responder resources with more calls for our ambulances, police and fire departments. Additionally, the traffic that 90 beds and up to 60 staff (from other towns) would disrupt our town and cause needless congestion.
This former nursing home is in extremely close proximity to our local schools:
Kent Community Nursery School - 0.1 miles
Kent Center School - 0.4 miles:
Kent Prep School - 0.4 miles
This property also abuts the family neighborhood of Southwood Commons
Many rehab centers are now looking for other states to set up their centers to turn a quick profit.

Realtor studies show that home values are reduced by up to 17 percent when they are located near treatment centers that are designed to treat opiate addiction. Reduced property values have a detrimental impact on local tax revenues. Addiction Treatment Centers Effect On Property Values
We have two drug rehabs in Kent already, let’s use this property in a way that would help benefit our community members and not line the pockets of an out of town / out of state for profit company.
Please sign this petition to stop this dangerous operation in our town and keep Kent, CT a beautiful and safe place to live.
