Edison is a beautiful school in the center of our neighborhood. It is surrounded on all sides by an abundance of green-space. It is well populated with almost 500 students (70+ who have been involuntarily transferred from a recently closed school). It is a well cared for, highly utilized campus by district teams, town teams and neighbors.
The teachers and staff at Edison nurture learners of all styles and levels. It is home to a variety of students with diverse academic needs ranging from GT to physical, academic and emotional disabilities. There are 3 consultant teaching classrooms, self-contained classrooms, OT, PT, Speech, ESL, and GT naming only some of the services being utilized. Students at Edison outperform others on state testing.
Edison has amazing staff who are like family members who truly care about our children. They take an active roll in helping them become caring, responsible citizens by involving them in programs such as Maddi Movement (Pay it Forward), Valentines for Veterans, collecting donations for the Ken-Ton Closet, SPCA, adopting families from the Salvation Army for the holidays, food drives, pajama drives, Pennies for Patients, making cookies and centerpieces for area nursing homes to name a few.
The community that populates Edison has more families then other elementary schools. Many of us have chosen our homes based on our children's ability to attend Edison. The faculty and staff at Edison share our family values and help reinfrorce good character in each of our children.
Attend any event at Edison and you will see the unique comradery, love and respect the staff at Edison have for one another, the kids and parents. A "team" approach is very important to them. Edison is a special place that needs to recognized and preserved. Other district schools are less populated and lack the qualities that Edison has.
It is important to our children and our neighborhood that Edison remains open.
