Despite the crisis-level childcare shortage in Milton, MA, Curry College has decided to permanently close their Early Education Childhood Center at the end of May. The college is citing budget deficits due to the pandemic, but many believe coronavirus restrictions will be lifted soon, allowing the school to reverse the damage.

We urge you to sign this petition to keep CECC open, so that we may avoid:

  • A disproportionate impact on working mothers and low-income families:

One in five working mothers in the USA has already lost their jobs due to childcare closures in the past year. The closing of CECC will likely add more, as there are extremely long waitlists at nearby childcare centers. Even if a family is able to secure a spot, the CECC is a non-profit organization, with much more affordable pricing than the for-profit operations nearby.

  • An academic loss to the Curry College community:

Students will no longer have access to on-campus internships, practica, and course observations for Early Childhood academics. The quality and retention of Curry employees may be impacted, as many Faculty and Staff choose to work and stay at Curry because of the on-site childcare.

A faculty task force has submitted a proposal to keep a childcare center on campus, and they are fully confident that they have created a financial plan that will reverse the center’s budget deficit and create revenue.

Please sign this petition to show your support for campus childcare at Curry College and call upon the Curry administration to work with the task force to implement their proposal.
