Composting in Glenolden: Better for the Environment

The breakdown of organic matter (i.e our food scraps and yard waste) is significantly delayed when sent to a landfill. Even more, it gives off a greenhouse gas called methane, highly responsible for warming our planet, as it is estimated to be around 20% more potent than CO2.

Composting, when it comes down to it, is basically just recycling food waste. There are a great number of residents in Glenolden who set out recycling on Tuesday evenings, therefore a public interest to divert plastics and paper from being sent to landfill. By implementing a system to recycle food scraps through curbside composting, Glenolden Borough can provide residents with another eco-friendly habit, take a significant step in the fight against climate change, and even save money by using the soil produced from the city's compost for parks and rec.
