A three-year-old girl, Sherin (Saraswati) Mathews, was dumped and abandoned at about 6 months old in India by her birth mother. She lived in a Indian orphanage until she was 2 years old. In July of 2016, Sherin was adopted by Sini and Wesley Mathews. To many, it seemed as though Sherin was finally going to a new home where she would be loved and cared for.... that did not happen.
In September of 2016, just two months after Sherin was adopted by Sini and Wesley, she was treated for a broken elbow. A couple of the other tragic occurrences included Sherin having a broken femur and tibia. The fractures continued to occur and on March 2017, Sherin’s doctor did a total of 23 X-rays that proved that all of the broken bones had occurred after Sherin was adopted by the Mathews. The doctor said there was no other explanation, Sherin was being abused at the hands of her adoptive parents, Wesley and Sini. After the doctor was certain Sherin was being abused, she contacted CPS. The doctor told Sini that she had contacted CPS and Sini was annoyed and responded by telling the doctor “that was ruining her weekend plans”.
Needless to say, CPS did not help Sherin and on October 24, 2017, Sherin’s body was found dumped in a culvert.
On October 6, 2017 Wesley Mathews admits to police that he, Sini, and their biological daughter, went out to eat at On the Border leaving 3-year-old Sherin home alone for over an hour and a half. On October 7, 2017, Wesley called in a missing persons report, lying to police saying Sherin disappeared when he left her by a tree at 3 a.m. as punishment for not drinking her milk.
When Sherin was reported missing, Sini was brought into Richardson PD for questioning. Sini became annoyed and stated she had a baby shower to be at that day. In the CPS hearing for their biological daughter, the D.A. Questioned Sini about a comment she made about the kids adopted from India being “damaged goods”.
When Sherin’s body was found, Wesley admitted to physically assisting Sherin to drink her milk which ultimately resulted in her death. Sini stated that at 5 a.m. she woke up seeing Wesley at the kitchen table and that he stated something bad had happened. And still, there was no call to police until after 8 a.m... And Sini, knowing that Sherin was dead, still withheld that from police and the community as everyone continued to search for Sherin day and night for over two weeks.
Wesley is currently being charged for the murder of Sherin while Sini is only being charged with child abandonment which carries a sentence of 2-20 years.
The purpose of this petition is to request the maximum sentence (20 years) for Sini Mathews. There were a few occasions when Sherin was taken to the doctor for injuries when Wesley was not there. Sini abused and allowed abuse of Little Sherin and she deserves maximum punishment for doing so!
All to often, children are being abused, abandoned, and killed and the parents get off with minimum sentences and a slap on the wrist. Sini played a key role in the abuse and death of Sherin and deserves nothing less than the maximum sentence for this crime; if not, more! Accomplice to murder sounds like a more appropriate charge.
Considering that Sini knew Sherin had been killed and helped Wesley conceal the death, I’d like to refer to the Texas Penal Code Section 7.01. It states that an individual (Sini) who knowingly and willingly assists another party in his (Wesley) commission, escape from, or concealment of a crime may face charges involving the criminal act.
Aiding and abetting charges should also be given to Sini considering that she knew Sherin was dead, lied to law enforcement, and help Wesley conceal the crime. Aiding and abetting charges could result in Sini getting charged with the same charges as Wesley
Sherin has been let down by almost every single person that was a part of her life leading up to her death. Let’s fight and bring justice for this little girl whose life was taken all too soon and for no reason at all. We are asking the Dallas County judge, the Texas Attorney General, and any other related government agencies to do everything in their power to serve justice for Sherin and see that Sini Mathews receives the maximum sentence for this charge and additional charges added where they deem fit.
