No Marijuana Stores Near Our Schools

The Government on Ontario announced that marijuana stores can open 150 metres away from schools.

Allowing marijuana stores 150 metres away from a school is deeply concerning. To ensure the safety of our students, we believe the minimum distance should be at least the 450 metres originally announced by the previous government — a distance our Premier complained wasn’t large enough in May 2018.

A motion will be brought forward to the TDSB’s Planning and Priorities Committee that asks the Chair to write a letter to the Minister of Education requesting that the TDSB be consulted on the locations of cannabis stores.

In Toronto, Body Rub Parlours must be at least 500 meters away from any school, and Video Arcades must be 300 meters away. To let marijuana stores open within just 150 meters is dangerous.

Please sign this petition to show your support. You can also attend the committee meeting where this will be debated. The Planning and Priorities Committee will meet on Wednesday, November 21st at 4:30 p.m. You can make a delegation and speak on the issue by emailing delegates@tdsb.on.ca
