BREAKING: Its midnight...a gnawing feeling of hunger is continuously biting at your stomach. And while you know breakfast is a long way out, the thought of some food is the first thing that comes to mind. Although this may not be a severe problem in the context of terrorism, immigrants, etc., our voices matter more than ever in approving a new, "honorary" mealtime at midnight for those hungry individuals.

The myth of "eating at night leads to weight gain" is not necessarily true.

Your body's ability to gain weight is mainly about how much you eat, not when you eat. Nutritionist Alan Aragon once said, " Your body does not store more fat more readily at night than at other times during the day." What an individual needs to look out for is the idea of burning more calories over some time compared to the calories consumed. Weight and fat gain don't just happen overnight; it takes time to accumulate. Your body is also more likely to store food as fat the fewer amount of times you eat per day. Not only would adding midnight mealtime combat this issue, but it would also allow your body to metabolize at a faster rate - allowing for more efficient use of energy throughout the day.

Still, don't believe it? Let's spice it up with some proven research.

Researchers from Israel conducted a six-month study on the benefits of eating in the night compared to other times in the day. Two types of participants took part in the project: People who ate their most substantial meal at breakfast & people who ate their largest meal in the night.

What researchers found reaped impressive results; the participants who satisfied their late-night munchies not only lost more fat, they were able to accomplish a better sense of "fulfillment" in the six months and saw positive changes to their fat loss hormones. It doesn't end there. Participants also experienced fewer hunger cravings, lost 11 percent more weight, and lost 10.5 percent more body fat. Talk about healthy goals!

So you may be asking: Who would support this kind of movement?

Who are you? Are you a college student grinding out the last hours of the night studying for an exam? Are you a high school student working on the piles of homework assigned to you in one night? Are you a late-hour worker tediously managing through the dark hours of the night? Are you just an average guy/girl, hungry because you just are? Or are you that one person that adores eating cereal at midnight (if so, you're not alone!). Well, no matter who you might be, your voice matters. It's hard to start a movement with one person, but if we unite our voice as ONE then we have a fighting chance to make a change

Join the movement! Please sign this petition in recognizing eating at midnight as an official mealtime. We already have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So why can't we add one more? What we name it is up to the people. It's time to recognize our "midnight munchies" as the real deal. Thank you!
