Make HIDOE public schools return to distance learning
The cases in the state of Hawai’i have reached 3000+ cases consecutively daily. As we all know, Omicron is a rapidly spread virus. The University of Hawai’i is moving many of their classes online for the first two weeks of the spring semester and HIDOE public schools should be following their lead. Although, we understand the importance of social interactions between students are crucial, this is a matter of protecting school teachers, staff, students, and the families they return home to. Especially in low income communities where they have multi-generational homes where it is easily spread to the elders who have weaker immune systems. We are asking to allow public school to return to distance learning for two weeks and allow the cases to settle and not add to the already high amount of cases.
