Keep Wuilman Vanegas Home—Protect Humanitarian Parole

The Issue

Wuilman Vanegas didn’t come to the United States to take, he came to give.

For over 15 years, he taught high school students in Nicaragua. Now, under humanitarian parole, he continues that calling in Maryland, working tirelessly across three part-time jobs to teach Spanish to children in public schools and at Howard University. He’s made a home here, found community, and inspired students every day through his dedication and kindness.

But now, the Trump administration is threatening to take all of that away.

Last month, Wuilman received notice that his humanitarian parole, granted for urgent humanitarian reasons, is being revoked. He and his family have been ordered to leave by April 25. This is not just a bureaucratic decision. It’s an attack on a system designed to protect human lives and uphold our shared values of compassion and fairness.

This is cruelty, plain and simple.

Wuilman’s work is a public good. He is exactly the kind of person humanitarian parole was meant to protect - someone who uplifts others, contributes meaningfully, and seeks only the chance to live in peace and safety.

The program that brought him here is now under attack. Hundreds of thousands of people across the country, each with their own stories of hardship, hope, and contribution, are at risk of being ripped from their lives and forced back into danger or instability.

We cannot let that happen.

We call on immigration authorities and the federal government to immediately halt the revocation of Wuilman Vanegas’s humanitarian parole. Let him stay, let him work, let him continue helping the next generation thrive.

And beyond Wuilman, we must stand together to protect humanitarian parole itself. This vital program exists for a reason. We cannot allow it to be dismantled at the expense of human dignity, safety, and decency.

Wuilman belongs here. His family belongs here. Let’s fight to make sure they can stay.
