Keep the Harris Farm driveways closed

Keep the Harris Farm driveways closed
Why this petition matters
For two years Lane Cove pedestrians have enjoyed this safe, quiet, continuous car-free strip all the way from Tambourine Bay Road to the village centre. This has meant peace of mind for the many daily walks to school, day-care, shops, and visits to the Lane Cove village and Canopy especially with small children. Unfortunately, Harris Farm intends to re-open these driveways to traffic.
We ask Harris Farm to please keep the two driveways closed permanently.
This pedestrian friendly zone is more valuable to our community and the local store-front's safe and convenient pedestrian access economy, than reopening vehicle traffic across two footpaths in front of Harris Farm.
The noise, exhaust and danger of vehicles crossing both footpaths will affect the enjoyment and sense of safety of our community space.
The car-park will still be accessible via Tambourine Bay Road and Austin Street (just as accessible as the Woolworths carpark) and so the closure of the driveways would not impose any significant hindrance to the local economy. In fact, diverting vehicle traffic away from Burns Bay Road can only benefit the store-front economy by creating a quieter, safer environment that extends the ‘village’ vibe of the Canopy and Greens down to Harris Farm.
From a Safety perspective, the risk of pedestrian/vehicle incidents can only be eliminated by keeping the driveways closed. As the driveways are on Harris Farm property, any such risks are within the scope of Harris Farm’s responsibility to the community. The proposed solution of Flashing Lights and a Convex Mirror are insufficient risk mitigation measures especially for the high volume of children who cross these driveways each day.
Lane Cove Village's pedestrian-first atmosphere and safe walkability are worth preserving.
We look forward to the opening of the new Harris Farm Market, but not the driveways.
