On March 7 2017, State Street Global Advisors put up a statue of a confident girl staring down the iconic bull in the financial district of New York City. State Street's president and CEO, Ron O’Hanley, says, "Today, we are calling on companies to take concrete steps to increase gender diversity on their boards and have issued clear guidance to help them begin to take action." Lori Heinel, State Street's deputy global chief investment officer, told Business Insider, "Even though it's a little girl, her stance is one of determination, forwardness, and being willing to challenge and take on the status quo." Business Insider reports that THE STATUE IS TO COME DOWN IN ABOUT A MONTH. Gender inequality in the financial world will not go away in a month. We urge State Street and the City of New York to work to make the statue a more permanent fixture of the financial district.
