The Many Human Faces of Mental Illness
Call for action: Let the Government of Ontario know you want them to continue to support The Ontario Mental Health Foundation because the important research The OMHF funds improves the quality of life for all Ontarians.
I’m a mother, grandmother, widow, sister and friend – now in my mid-70s – and in many of these roles at different times in my life, I have loved someone who has struggled with mental illness. The illness could be brief or long term, but either way that person was helped by the support and services he or she received. The better the research, the better the services.
And I’m not alone in my experiences. According to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s website, in any given year 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental health or addiction problem. And by the time we reach age 40, 1 in 2 of us have – or have had – a mental illness.
Please lend your voice and sign this urgent petition. Don’t let the Government of Ontario close the door on The Ontario Mental Health Foundation. Discussions are being held in the coming days (by mid-September) to shut down funding!!!
We need more funding, not less. We need more research that generates real-world applications, not less. We need more communities involved in shaping our research agenda, not less. We need to respond to the many faces of mental illness, because these faces are us.
