Keep the Children's Centre in Mountsorrel open.

We want Leicestershire County Council (LCC) to keep Mountsorrel Children's Centre (formerly known as the Surestart centre) open.
Despite earmarking additional funding for the county wide programme LCC are still intent on closing the centre based at Mountsorrel Primary School, which serves the villages of Mountsorrel, Rothley, Quorn, Barrow Upon Soar and Sileby. The centre is a vital resource for new parents and much needed in the area. It needs to be kept open.
LCC have proposed relocating a proportion of the provision currently delivered at Mountsorrel to Children’s Centres in Thurmaston or Regent Road in Loughborough. Neither of these centres are on a direct bus route and would at best require a 20min car or taxi ride. LCC have failed to consider the financial, time and emotional burden of such journeys.
Children's Centres have been responsible for improvements in maternal mental health, breastfeeding rates and infant's readiness for school. The social and financial cost to the Council, NHS and to other authorities of decreasing rates of breastfeeding, increasing incidence of maternal ill-health, and lack of infants' readiness for school has not been calculated or considered.
Closing the centre will leave new parents isolated and alone and will have long term negative consequences on child health, maternal health, social and economic factors both locally and in the wider Leicestershire area.
KEEP MOUNTSORREL CHILDREN'S CENTRE OPEN.
