Keep Run for the Roses

Keep Run for the Roses
Why this petition matters
Run for the Roses is a time honored tradition at Georgia Tech, dating back to the early 1980's. The event allows new members from both fraternities and sororities on Georgia Tech's campus to meet each other, and establish positive relationships with other Greek organizations early in the semester. The event typically comprises each fraternity new member class performing a skit/song/dance in front of their chapter house, and sorority new members do the same at each chapter house. At the conclusion of each presentation, the fraternity men give a rose to each sorority woman.
At the behest of Georgia Tech CPC, IFC is considering making sweeping changes to the event, as well as considering cancelling the event altogether. Polls of individual brothers and sisters of many organizations show there is no push from the Greek community to change this event significantly. These polls estimate up to 80% of the Greek community has no issue with the event or the way it is performed. Changing important aspects of the event, such as venue, destroy the value of this tradition and take away from the Georgia Tech experience. Both Georgia Tech IFC and CPC are acting against the will of their members, making legislative decisions without the support of their individual chapters who they are supposed to represent. Slowly eroding the traditions of Georgia Tech students will ultimately change the culture of Greek organizations for the worst, eventually ending in their removal from our campus. Sign this petition to let Georgia Tech IFC, CPC, and Jamison Keller know you are not in favor of eroding traditions, and that their constituents disapprove of their continued ignorance of our beliefs.
