In 2016 Reading Prison opened for the Artangel exhibition 'Inside: Artists and Writers in Reading Prison'. During the three month exhibition over 50,000 visitors came the majority of which were from the local area (1).

In addition to the main exhibition there were fully booked tours with The National Trust, A sell out play 'The Trials of Oscar Wilde' performed by Reading Between the Lines, a series of lectures organised by Reading University and the production 'Infamous' by Berzerk Productions.

Now plans are underway to sell the property to housing developers. But the brief won't be put to Reading Council for approval until late 2017 (2).

Until the building is sold it should remain open as a community centre for culture and the arts. Please sign this petition so we can apply pressure to prevent this historic building from being kept needlessly empty.

This petition will be delivered to:
  • Lords Spokesman, Ministry of Justice
    Lord Keen
  • Lord Stoddart
  • MP
    Alok Sharma
  • MP
    Rob Wilson
