Help KEEP Postman Randy in Berrien Springs!
Why this petition matters
Please sign this petition in order to KEEP our regular postman in Berrien Springs!!!
Randy Radecki (or “Postman Randy” to many of you!) is a well-known and much-appreciated figure in Berrien Springs. His iconic Converse All-Stars and bright smile are just some of the things that we have all come to know and love about him! He is set to retire, after almost 23 years of service in Berrien Springs and 2 years in Buchanan, at the end of March 2023.
Unfortunately, I just learned that beginning on November 12th, he will be transferred rather suddenly and unceremoniously to a new route – unless we can come together as a town and stop that from happening!
His new route would be in Niles and would include large sections of walking in the snow and cold. Randy has some health issues, and this new route would most certainly aggravate those. This new assignment would also leave him having to make the difficult choice of A) having to demote himself but stay in Berrien Springs (however he would then have to work on a part-time basis, which would delay his retirement that he has worked tirelessly for and would add working Sundays and all holidays because of his part-time status) or B) accepting a completely new route in Niles as a full-time employee, just before the holidays hit, and mere months before retiring.
If you have lived elsewhere, you may have experienced your letters and/or packages going to the wrong address, and you know how frustrating that is. However, this definitely does not happen on days when Randy is working our Berrien Springs route! He knows each person’s name at the different addresses along his route, when they leave, if they just moved in, and there are almost never problems with packages going to the wrong address when he is on He goes above and beyond for all of us – he even goes so far as to make our kids laugh and to get to know our pets.
Postman Randy knows our area the best and his starting a new route, just before the holidays, would affect each one of us. It would, of course, most especially affect our dear Randy, who desperately does not want to leave Berrien Springs, yet also cannot afford (either mentally or financially) to be demoted to part-time status.
I am asking that you help Postman Randy by signing this petition that will be sent to the Grand Rapids Main Post Office (which is the office in charge of making the route decisions for the Berrien County postal service) at 225 Michigan St. NW, Grand Rapids MI 49599. You can also help by calling them directly to request that this change not be made. You can reach them at (616) 776-1577.
I know it may seem like a small thing to you, but it would mean the world to Randy to know that the community he has served for so many years is now working to keep him here.
Let’s act now to show the support Randy needs to remain our postman!!!
