Keep Peg Fritton at Tully for one more year!

Peg Fritton would like to keep the privilege of being school social worker through June 2018. Presently, her retirement date is June 30, 2017. She agreed to this date for reasons explained below.
Last school year (2016), the Board of Education proposed reducing the social worker position to half-time, while increasing a .5 school psychologist position to full-time. That would have provided the elementary school with two full-time school psychologists who would take on some of the responsibilities that Peg, current school social worker, is currently doing, and allow for more evaluation potential. There was much push back from staff and parents last year about the reduction of the social work position. Additionally, the full-time hired new psychologist resigned for another job over the summer (2016).
The administration decided to keep the social work position full-time for one more year. They told Peg the position would remain full-time and she could stay on for the (2016-2017 school year) UNDER THE CONDITION that she sign a letter stating that she would agree to retire June of 2017 (one full year before she was scheduled to retire). She decided to sign the letter to keep the full-time social work position in place for the school as well as allow her to continue in the position. She was afraid that if she did not make this move, the elementary school would lose the benefits of a full-time school social worker.
Peg met with Mr. Hughes in December 2016, to ask him if the school would consider extending her employment one more year. He said no. In early February 2017, Peg wrote a written request to the school board to extend her position to June 2018. She has not heard anything from the Board in response to her letter. The budget presentations for the 2017-18 school year include the social work position as a full-time position. This is no way to end one's career after putting in 28 good, solid years with a district. Peg only needs 90 more days in order to receive her full pension. The District is aware of this.
Peg Fritton has put in almost 30 dedicated years to the Tully school district. She has been exceedingly loyal to children and families in our community. Her work has been valued tremendously by parents. She has been a needed advocate for those without a voice, in our district. We feel that she should be entitled to stay for her final year at Tully, as we feel she has earned this right. We believe the Tully Schools would benefit from Peg Fritton continuing as the school social worker for the 2017-18 school year. We respectfully ask that you do what is best for our students and families and extend her retirement date to June 30, 2018.
