Why this petition matters

Started by Erika Totanes

The students of the Graphic Design program at Mission College are petitioning to keep Amalia Broadbent's Packaging Design course for another Spring semester.

We feel that the class wasn't given a proper promotion, and as designers, we feel this class should be considered mandatory course to earn a certification or degree in Graphic Design. Most, if not all, entry level job listings require knowledge about packaging design to be successful at their company.

We have students in our GDS program who are also students at San Jose State University purely because Mission College offers courses that San Jose State lacks. This includes Packaging Design.

If this doesn't motivate you, I could share all the wonderful things about Amalia. She's driven, informative, patient, and kind. She encourages all her students, especially the ones that are looking for their confidence in their design identity. She's honest and professional, but most of all, encourages class collaboration. She moves with the pace of the class, but pushes us enough to make sure you've grown.

Keep Packaging Design on the Mission College course list. Give it a fair chance. Give future designers a strong start after college.
