My name is Rosemary Lewis. I’m a single mom raising my 6 year old daughter Christyn. She was diagnosed with stage 1 Autism and ADHD. Christyn attends the Coxsackie Elementary in Coxsackie NY. I work full time trying to do what’s best for her and that is to keep her safe. This includes being allowed to ride the school bus. As of this year for 1st grade my daughter is being forced to walk to school. I do admit I live close to the school but I don’t have anyone reliable who can walk her there or drop her off. I’ve tried changing my work schedule but my boss won’t accommodate. I’ve tried talking to the school to have her placed on the bus after explaining my situation but all they suggested was to have a complete stranger or another student walk with her. STRANGER DANGER!! I’m looking to have as many signatures as possible to change the school policy so that ALL elementary students should be talking the bus. The schools says they keep all kids safe but yet suggest to parents that they are okay with them walking to school or getting rides from complete strangers or other students. As a parent I don’t agree with this. I’d like to see the school update this policy so they can accommodate for those single parents who are struggling. If you are parent or guardian and you have a child who attends the same Elementary as my daughter or knows someone who is struggling with the same issue PLEASE sign this petition so we can help keep our kids safe.
