This is a petition to keep the Muheim Strong Start Program open. Strong Start has been critical to the well-being and early socialization of countless children and families. Not only is it a great place for children to socialize. It is an invaluable resource for parents to connect with other parents, gain support, socialize and network.

We would like to urge the SD54 Board of Trustees to reconsider the closure of this program. Since Covid protocols have lifted the program at Muheim has been very well attended; and although funding for education programs are always tight, we would argue that we cannot see our community lose such a valuable resource, no matter the cost. 

With the number of families with young children in Smithers, one strong start program (at Walnut Park Elementary) is not adequate to meet the needs of our community. It would be a shame to see those who want to attend being turned away if the program is full every day.
