Why this petition matters

Started by Victor Chu

Dear IIA Board of Directors:

We are signing and submitting this petition as a broad based coalition of the IIA community with a unified message: do not place Mr. Scott back in a position of authority and do not allow him to continue to eschew your oversight by having any further interactions with IIA staff, teachers, parents, students and families.

It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but based on the sudden appearance of a hastily cobbled together board agenda with error-filled supporting documents posted past the required 24 hour notice window, it appears that the IIA Board is set on reinstalling Mr. Michael Scott in a position of authority as Director of Educational Services.  This will usurp the authority of the current Interim Executive Director and replace significant aspects of the Principal's role while the Principal himself is away on administrative leave.

These actions have further reduced our confidence in the IIA Board. From the prior teacher complaint letters and the surveys (PTO and IIA Board), it is evident that bringing Mr. Scott back goes against the wishes of an overwhelming majority of IIA stakeholders.  His poor past performance and unfitness to serve in a prominent role is further evidenced by the ongoing OCDE investigation that has yielded many additional issues.

We the undersigned represent the parents and staff who will not be returning to IIA next year due to Mr. Scott's prior indiscretions and/or if the board reinstates him in a role of authority.

If the IIA Board votes in favor of Mr. Scott returning,  there will be protests and walk outs. We understand that our choice of non-attendance may impact the school’s finances immediately and significantly curtail plans of expansion next year, but other avenues of having our complaints addressed have not yielded any significant results.

This is not a protest against the Interim Executive Director, who has singularly been a voice of reason and shown his support for teachers and parents while serving on the IIA board.  We would like to show our solidarity in supporting IIA administration, staff, teachers, parents, students and the wider Irvine community.
