Keep Kids in School Petition!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!

This petition is to bring awareness and demand that In-Person learning is essential for many students across Montgomery County and Pennsylvania! It is critical that Governor Wolf and Dr. Levine abandon their unreachable and unrealistic expectations on our schools for reopening. We are calling on all elected officials: US Senators, US Representatives, County Commissioners, State Senators, State Representatives, and School Board Members to acknowledge that school is essential and must continue with the option between Full In-Person learning or Full Virtual learning.

Although this pandemic started with a virus the unintentional consequences from school closure has now led to a mental health pandemic! It is vital that we do something for our youth!

Recommendations to keep schools open:

  • CDC Director Robert Redfield did not recommend closing schools in the spring, nor does it recommend it now! Redfield stated “The truth is, for kids K-12, one of the safest places they can be…”
  • A joint statement from Northeastern states Governors including Governor Wolf “In-Person learning is the best possible scenario for children, especially those with special needs and from low-income families. There is also growing evidence that the more time children spend outside of school increases the risk of mental health harm and affects their ability to learn.”

Over the past several months, many children have been isolated from school, teachers, friends and sports. Skyrocketing depression and anxiety within many households within our community. The numbers of depression, anxiety, and suicide have been ignored and not given nearly enough attention.  Not only are children across our community fighting with isolation and mental health there are a number of children who rely heavily on schools for critical services. Children across this community who utilize schools for a number of reasons: children with learning disabilities (IEP), children who look to school as a safe haven from abuse, children who get their only meals at school, and so much more! It is critical to also not forget the children who just frankly miss their friends, teachers, activities, and social interaction!
