Keep Early Days and Monday AE at JBHS
Keep Early Days and Monday AE at JBHS
Why this petition matters
JBHS Administration,
As members of the John Burroughs High School community, many of us have become accustomed to the current schedule, and quite comfortable with AE on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, early release on Tuesdays, and a traditional schedule on Fridays. However, with talks of a different schedule next semester, one without early release and AE on Mondays, it is only right that we state our case for the current schedule.
Already being this far into the year, many students with paying jobs, extracurricular commitments, and household responsibilities have constructed their personal schedules around the assumption that they would be out earlier on Tuesdays. The adjustments affected students would have to make to accommodate this new schedule could prove quite detrimental, and lead to personal (and even academic) repercussions.
And it’s not just the students, either. With the schedule presented for next semester, one must also consider what this means for staff members on campus. Just like the students, they lead engaging lives outside of JBHS, and have commitments to tend to. These could be everything from raising a family to working a part-time job, or even both. They’re already underpaid for the duties they perform, must we deprive them of their personal time too?
Think about it. Be reasonable. We as members of this community have already had to adapt to so much over the past two years. We’ve been plagued with numerous schedule changes, rapidly changing educational policies, and all that was involved with returning to in-person learning. We’ve finally found some semblance of normalcy and peace for the first time since 2020. While you preach supporting community members to the best of your abilities, we have seldom seen any meaningful action on your behalf. This is your chance to prove yourself and your commitment to the members of this community. We beg you, please make the right decision, and keep our schedule the way it is.
