Keep Courtesy Advertising in Portsmouth City Limits
Why this petition matters

Courtesy Advertising has been around now over 45 years. Previously owned by Fred Bales, who passed away from COVID in January 2021. Fred was 83 years old and worked on these benches daily, up to 10 hours a day to still be able to provide for his family. Fred was our grandpa and since his passing we wanted the business to stay in the family so Fred's wife (our grandmother) agreed to sell it to us and allow us to do monthly payments so that she also still had a monthly income and is connected to the business that she helped run for over 40 years. We provide advertising for businesses at a very affordable cost. There is a Portsmouth City Counsel Member who seems to have a problem with our benches. One has stated that "these benches attract trash and he would like to have them all replaced with trash cans". This would be detrimental to not only our business but as well as several other local small business owners. This would cause financial strain not only on our family but also to an 84 year old woman who still depends on this income. This would strip away the affordable advertisement for many other businesses. For some businesses we are the only kind of advertisement they can afford. We are asking that everyone help us fight against the opinion of this City Counsel Member with wanting to remove them and support our small business that has been here for over 40 years and has helped many other small businesses grow!
