Keep Brian Nelson Spencer incarcerated
In Huntsville, Alabama in 2006, Brian Nelson Spencer went into a mobile home occupied with four people, and shot my grandfather, Calvin Hastings, in the neck, and severing his spine, causing him to be paralyzed and hospitalized for three months before his death. Spencer left my grandfather lying there begging for help, while he gathered his belongings, stepped over my grandfathers bleeding body, and left. My grandfather was never able to tell his side of the story, but on 02/21/08 Spencer was convicted on manslaughter in the death of my grandfather. Spencer was up for parole in 2013 and other times after that. The first parole in which one of my grandfathers family members didn’t attend, the judge (whose name I am unsure of) released Spencer. It has come to my attention that on 03/04/2022, Spencer was arrested on second degree arson charges. While Spencer’s previous trial and parole were active I was too young to participate. My grandfather deserved to live a full life and to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Spencer had a second chance at freedom knowing that he killed in cold blood,(in my opinion, this case was never manslaughter to begin with), and inmates that get released on these charges usually, like Spencer, get arrested again on other violent charges. I’m hoping this will reach the Madison County judge over Brian Nelson Spencer’s case. My grandfather didn’t get a second chance at life, and if Spencer gets released following his current arrest, it would be his third time free and putting the community at risk. Spencer deserves life without the possibility of parole.
