During Ordinary Meeting of Mackay Region Council on 13th July, 2022, council voted against allowing the retrospective approval of a COMPLETE application by an artist to install public artwork at Camilleri St Skate Park. A genuine miscommunication occurred whereby the artist believed Council approval had been given, and painting was begun with the use of community raised funds and resources. On notification that approval was in fact NOT given, the artist immediately ceased works, and proceeding with ensuring application was completed in its entirety and lodged with Council. 

7 councillors voted against the approval, and therefore the squandering of community members time, money and resources in the name of “precedent.” These councillors are out-of-touch with the Northern Beaches community and it’s youth who are set to benefit most from the installation of this public artwork.
