Lembah Bujang, within the Merbok district of Kedah, is the richest archaeological site in Malaysia with 90 candi (temple) scattered throughout the valley. Excavations on the site have also uncovered jetty remains, iron smelting sites and relics with Hindu and Buddhist influences that point towards a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom there as early as 110 CE.
It was bulldozed and destroyed by a developer for pursuing a development without considering how rich and invaluable the heritage that has been let down.
Please support this petition to stop this activity and to ask the authority to sit back and think how much destroy has been done. How our children and the next generation would have the enthusiasm and be able to learn from history, if many of the local history sites are not valued by the Authority.
We ought to dismay at this unthinkable roughshod over our collective heritage. We ought to protect, nurture and reclaim our heritage. We ought, quite simply, to put the stance on this horrible situation for not happening again in Malaysia..
