Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology (KCET) was established in 1998 with the support of peoples fund in Viruthunagar, Tamilnadu, India. Among the 4 departments with which the college was started "Department of Polymer Technology" stood unique and have been the only private college in Tamilnadu providing the course. The department has produced a lot of technocrats and entrepreneurs in the field of Polymer. Most of them are working in top Tire and Plastic industries in India and abroad. Few of the Alumni are in prestigious research institutes nationally and internationally and in academic positions as a faculty in IITs and NITs.

In 2021, the college management decided to close the unique department stating that there is no enough strength in the department which is a shocking news where the entire education system even the top institutions were struggling because of the Covid effects. They could have given a year time to see if the department gets back to its student strength. The Alumni of the departments were not informed or even asked for suggestion. We request all the alumni of KCET and the Polymer field experts to support us in getting back the department opened again in KCET.

The world needs lot more Polymer people to address the Plastic challenge and advanced materials.
