Why this petition matters

Hi!

My name is Kayla Green and I am a sophomore majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology/ Pre-Law here at Millikin University. I am interested in becoming the student representative to the board of trustees. To be considered eligible for this position I will need 100 signatures from full-time students. On campus, I am involved in Track & Field, Black Student Union, and I also serve as residential academic peer mentor while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. In my time here at Millikin I have had the privilege of organizing a Sexual Assault Awareness Week in the fall semester of 2021 which addressed some of the safety concerns raised by both students and members of staff on campus. Also, in the spring semester of 2022 I organized an event titled, "Becoming A Better Woman," in an attempt to provide young women information, resources, and guidance from successful women of color across different professional fields. With this position I plan to make the voice of the student body heard and make sure Millikin does its absolute best to ensure that all student's needs are met using the most equitable approach possible. Furthermore, I plan to find ways to make our campus more welcoming and embracive. My biggest goal in this position is to provide the board members of this university a better understanding of what student life is like, what improvements could be made, and ways to strengthen our social interactions here at Millikin.  As a campus community we cannot be successful without hearing the thoughts and opinions of our peers, and I hope that we will continue to be vocal about the changes we wish to see here.

Thank you in advance for your support!
