Terkesha Lane started this petition to Governor Kay Ivey and

Civil rights are being violated in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There is a grave injustice happening right there in the Tuscaloosa County Jail,  the District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff Department. I have witnessed first hand the acts of which this county has been allowed to get away with, I am a victim of Tuscaloosa County, the Sheriff department and it's unlawful criminal process. I was forced to appear in Tuscaloosa in January 2021 for a 17 year detainer that was pass the statue of limitations, extradited from Miami, Florida. Tuscaloosa ignored all requests, inquiries and motions for information on the charges, to resolve or dismiss charges from while I remained in Florida during the pandemic. I was removed during a quarantine process, picked up by Tuscaloosa Sheriff on January 6, 2021, arriving January 7, 2021. Reintroduced to Covid-19 due to the inhumane quarantine process practiced at the Tuscaloosa County Jail. In addition to all calls being restricted to the courthouse, public defender and state attorney's office. The staff has no data on the women and men held there, no desire to help nor do they care. I was verbally abused, mistreated, forced to shower in an area that was just as filthy as the bottom of any alley dumpster, without shower slides, given used clothes, all under garments taken, denied underwear and any other hygiene products, because of this I developed a fungus and rash that went untreated.  The housing conditions are horrendous, unsanitary, overcrowded, women sleeping on mats in the shower areas, under the table. During this pandemic none of the CDC guidelines are being followed at the facility for feeding, plastic forks and rinsed with water and circulated to other prisoners. Trays aren't cleaned, officers refuse to give disinfectant for cleaning. Prisoners are being maced/sprayed when they are innocent bystanders, I was one of them, I suffered by the hands of Sergeant Montgomery. The jail is infested with rodents and roaches, ceilings over the beds leaking. Contrary to what the TCJ website states, there is NO new technology, no video visitation or a visit from the public defender's office. No tablets. No new housing. No repairs are being done. The funding this jail is receiving is not being used properly. I was unlawfully held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail due to the errors of the District Attorney and the decision they made to violate my sixth amendment civil right. I have nightmares from what I went through at this facility. Changes must be made. Those who have been to this jail and released must speak up. The families of those that are still held in this jail must speak up about the court dates of prisoners being cancelled or delayed for months with explanation or contact from the public defender's office. I gave copies of grievances, notes, I am willing to start this battle. I need your help.
