Francisca Wallace started this petition to Governor Kay Ivey and

In the state of Alabama the school system have certain requirements by laws which have to be followed this includes State testing. I have a special needs daughter that today 9-6-19 took her required state test of 40+ questions at the 8th grade level. My daughter took 1 1/2 hours to just finish 7 questions, after many tears and watching my child struggle we took a break for the day. Here is a little insight on my daughter! She had been tested by the Alabama State Department of Education as well as the Alabama Alternate Assessment and my daughters results are as followed: Reading Score range 548-599 she tested 548, which puts her at 3rd grade reading level. Math range 400-507 she scored a 504, which would make her a 1st grade level in math. Science range 513-571 she tested 522 and that is a 3rd grade level. She had to take the required state test today at a 8th grade level, because she is in the 8th grade.  Do you know how hard it was not only on my child, but for myself to watch her struggle? We decided that she needed to stop at that point, because of stress and tears and resume another day. This will not change if we don't stand up and speak for the children with special needs students with IEP'S that's why there in place for but not enforced or even considered on state testing!! This will only continue being a problem if we don't speak up for our children because something has to change. Everyone join me to fight and speak up for our children!! If we as Parent's/Guardians don't speak up for them who will?? We are the voice for our children and they need us!! I'm begging all of you to please sign this petition and share this so we can make a change for kids that struggle through these testings that are not at their grade level. Just because children with special needs are in a certain grade does not mean that they need to take a required state test at that grade they are in!! I will also be writing a letter to Governor Kay Ivey at 600 Dexter Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36130. Please feel free to also write to her and lets make this change for our kids.
