BACKGROUND

Kawenniio | Gaweniyo Private School (KGPS) has celebrated over 30 years of teaching endangered indigenous languages and we STILL have no place to call our own.  From parents garages to broken down asbestos laced structures, our children have persevered in learning their ancestral languages.  Through the kindness and goodwill of a local entrepreneur we are currently housed on the second floor of Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.  It was supposed to be temporary.  We've been here over 10 years now.  It's not fair to the owner, it borders on neglect for our children, and it's just not right.

PROBLEM

We don't have a building - we need a school!  The Canadian Federal government has a fiduciary responsibility to Six Nations to help with education.  After years - decades - of pleading with the feds to help build a new school they have told us, "...MAYBE in 30 years."  That's unacceptable.  They are neglecting their responsibilities while at best doing their bare minimum.  Our children deserve an education taught in their language - language that was taken by residential schools where unfathomable genocidal horrors where inflicted upon children as young as 4 years old.
