Why this petition matters

Started by Megan Dufrane

My name is Megan Dufrane i have a son named Leo who was diagnosed with Autism. Leo is currently is enrolled in a KPR school. They are not well funded due to Ford's educational cuts in 2019 resulting in schools scrambling to provide supports for their students that require them most. The problem is that there is absolutely ZERO one on one support virtually for students that have developmental delays such as Autism and ADHD, among many others. There is also a claim by Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board that there is a "lack of funding" or a "shortage of Educational Assistants" to put these supports in place, we can fight this. There are EA's not wanting to work in close quarters with children in fear of the COVID-19 virus which is completely understandable, but I do think that those same EA's could work with both the teachers and students virtually. This will ensure that the child is able to be more engaged in his or her studies and it will make it much easier for parents of these children to guide their children as well as take care of household duties as those don't stop just cause there have been changes surrounding COVID-19. So come on parents, sign this petition to help both students with special needs and parents of those students achieve a more manageable education plan! Children should not have to be put at risk of COVID-19 just so they can get supports that they need to thrive! Put the funding where it counts Ford Government.
