Justice for Jerry Craft

Jerry Craft, author of the award-winning book "New Kid" and "Class Act," was scheduled to speak and share his books this year in Katy ISD. My wife, a teacher in Katy ISD, stated how she and other minority parents and students were excited for him to come because their school is mainly comprised of white students and faculty. They were looking forward to listening to someone who shares their experience of being aware of their color and lack of diversity.
Sadly, my wife was told by her school that Jerry Craft's book tour was postponed but neglected to give the reason why. Parents and students were upset. However, much later my found out through the Nextdoor app that Katy ISD canceled his book tour because 500 parents stated his books promote critical race theory. Moreover, they are now removing all of his books from library shelves. This is not right!
Jerry Craft should be allowed to speak because kids are needing to hear his story so they do not feel alone. My daughter, a black girl, is fully aware she is only the black girl in her class along with only one black boy. Jerry Craft's book does not bash white people nor promote racism, but he does highlight what kids go through. Let us come together to get his books and tour back into Katy ISD.
