Deforestation of the countryside in Ontario is cause for concern. Huge swaths of hedgerow are being cut to make way for big agriculture. "Trees create an ecosystem to provide habitat and food for birds and other animals. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, from the air and release oxygen. One large tree can supply a day's supply of oxygen for four people." NC State University .
They also stabilize the soil and mitigate against high winds. Trees release humidity which in turn causes rainfall. In a world that is heating up, with droughts now becoming the norm in many places, now is not the time to raze all of the trees to the ground.
