YU: Nurses Suffer PTSD Too

Nurses work in highly stressful environments and experience trauma each and every day. Roughly 60% of workplace assaults occur in the health care field with nurses on the front line.  Studies show approximately 1 in 5 nurses will experience PTSD in their career. Nurses treat assault as “just another part of the job” and are expected to care for high patient loads after traumatic incidents. This not only impacts the well-being of nurses but the quality of care for patients. According to research, 98% of nurses who met diagnostic criteria for PTSD also experienced burnout syndrome.

We are asking Premier Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Labour Kevin Flynn and Minister of Health Eric Hoskins, to amend Bill 163 to include all nurses.
