Our current high school education system does not do enough to help teenagers transition to the adult life. Many important life skills such as knowing how to pay taxes, how credit cards work, how the voting system works, and how to spot signs of mental illness are not taught in school. Instead, much of the knowledge learned in mandatory courses is quickly forgotten and essentially useless. We propose to reform the education system to integrate the teaching of these skills with mandatory courses - for example, students can learn how credit and debit works in math class. We believe that this will decrease anxiety and depression levels in young people and produce more productive citizens, ultimately benefitting the economy and the country as a whole.
