Pikanii Band Councillor and active sobriety advocate Barney Provost was killed by drunk driver Douglas Bagnall. He was given a $300 bail and has failed to show up for court three times. He had not been checking in each week with Lethbridge Police, as required.
The accident occurred June 25, 2018 and Bagnall was charged in November 2018.
The death of 42-year-old Provost was a great loss to many people. He was not only a band councillor, but a teacher, and the principle at Tsuut'ina High School who had a master's degree in education from the University of Lethbridge.
Barney lived his entire life drug and alcohol free.
His brother Riel Houle-Provost and his family set up a Peace Teepee on the Lethbridge Courthouse grounds to protest a judge's decision to release a suspected impaired driver on bail.
This has been a travesty since the beginning, and we cannot let this matter disappear from our social media feeds.
Both of our cultures have suffered a great loss and the Provost family has endured so much. There may be a great deal more to go through until justice is finally served.
Please sign the petition, retweet, share on Facebook & other social media platforms or attend the proceedings to show your support and demand justice for the Provost family
This petition will be emailed to Kathleen Ganley- Minister of Justice and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs for the province of Alberta
MLA for Calgary-Buffalo. Minister of Justice & Solicitor General. NDP
