Here in Fredericton, we have several outdoor skateparks (some nicer than others but we do have a few). However, in the winter there is no place in this city for anyone to skateboard. This is an issue that all skaters here in Fredericton face and would like to see changed. Not only would providing an indoor space for people to skateboard during the winter give people something to do, but it would promote the sport, and local businesses. As skateboarding is now an Olympic sport, Fredericton is not allowing athletes to skate in the winter. This means that people can only skate for 6 months at a time, making it hard for the city to produce athletes. In addition to this, East Side Skate Shop and other businesses would do much better having steady customers year round as opposed to during the winter. A lot of people have been asking for an indoor park for a long time, and it is time to make that happen. This park would really brighten peoples lives up and allow them to skate all year and improve their abilities, social skills, self confidence, and is just plain fun! Even if you don't skate yourself, I'm sure you know someone who would love to use this park.
