Dear Governor Kate Brown,

We the undersigned join with the Socialist Party USA (SPUSA) of Central Oregon in urging you to reject Pembina's permit to construct the Jordan Cove LNG pipeline.

With the implication of eminent domain, the project is an infringement to personal property rights as well as the federally protected rights of Native American trust land. The project proposes clear-cutting of over 555 acres of old-growth forest, intrusion onto publicly owned BLM land, and also risks the safety of over 400 Oregon rivers and streams including the Klamath, Umpqua, Coquille and Coos rivers. The project introduces a risk of pipeline failure and exposes a severely dry Southern Cascadia region to the risk of large-scale fire and ecosystem destruction; especially considering the Williams Company (which is overseeing the project) has had nine significant spills, leaks, or ruptures in the recent past. Methane, which is a key component of natural gas, is 84 times more potent than carbon-dioxide as a greenhouse gas. The power plant facility which will supply the energy needed to convert the fracked gas into LNG will be the most polluting plant in the state of Oregon which would violate OR law #3543 which targets reducing Oregon’s greenhouse emissions. Economically, the export of LNG, as documented by the US Energy Information Administration, would increase domestic gas prices from a minimum of 10% to upwards of 20%.

Please Governor Kate Brown, Oregon needs the support of it’s elected Governor to reject Pembina’s permit to construct the Jordan Cove pipeline which would violate the rights of Oregonians and Native Americans as well as threaten our environmental safety and economic interests.
